Frequently asked
questions

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is. Our board-certified endodontists use precise anesthesia techniques and, where appropriate, the GentleWave Procedure, which cleans and disinfects more thoroughly with less instrumentation. The goal is to relieve your pain, not cause it.
You can book an appointment online or call us directly at (805) 960-3636. We have four Central Coast locations in San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, Santa Maria, and Arroyo Grande, so there is likely an office convenient to you.
The GentleWave Procedure uses advanced fluid dynamics and broad-spectrum acoustic energy to clean and disinfect the entire root canal system, including areas that standard instruments cannot reliably reach. This reduces the chance of treatment failure over time and often means a faster, more comfortable procedure.
Please call us right away at (805) 960-3636. Severe tooth pain, swelling, or trauma to a tooth are endodontic emergencies that we prioritize. Our team will work to get you seen as quickly as possible and get you out of pain.
Yes. Dr. Jonathan Fu and Dr. David Wong are both Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics, making them two of only a small number of board-certified endodontists on the Central Coast. All of our providers hold advanced specialty training from leading institutions and are committed to evidence-based care.
Absolutely. Clear communication is central to how we practice. Your doctor will walk you through your diagnosis, the recommended treatment, and what to expect at every step before anything begins. We want you to feel informed and at ease. If you have questions at any point, please call us at (805) 960-3636.
Endodontics is the dental specialty focused on diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries of the dental pulp (the soft tissue inside your tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels). Root canal therapy is the most common endodontic procedure, but our specialists also perform retreatments, apicoectomies, and treatment of traumatic dental injuries.
Yes. Digital X-rays used in our offices emit a very low level of radiation, significantly less than traditional film X-rays. We follow ALARA principles (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and only take X-rays when clinically necessary to aid in your diagnosis and treatment planning.
Our offices adhere strictly to OSHA, CDC, and ADA infection control guidelines. All instruments are sterilized between patients, single-use items are disposed of after each visit, and our teams follow rigorous hand hygiene and personal protective equipment protocols to ensure your safety.
After your procedure, it is normal to experience mild sensitivity or discomfort for a few days, which over-the-counter pain relievers typically manage well. Your endodontist will give you specific aftercare instructions. It is important to return to your general dentist promptly for a crown or permanent restoration to protect the treated tooth long-term.

Insurance & payment options

We accept most major dental insurance plans and work directly with your provider to verify your benefits before treatment begins. Our team will walk you through your coverage so there are no surprises, only clarity and confidence going into your appointment.

For patients with out-of-pocket costs or no insurance, we offer transparent, upfront pricing along with flexible financing through CareCredit. Our goal is to make expert endodontic care accessible at all four of our Central Coast locations, from San Luis Obispo to Arroyo Grande.
